Kurtys Kidd is a vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, producer and actor whose work has moved through some wonderfully strange corners of Canada’s alternative music underground.
From punk clubs and recording studios to film sets, Kidd has built a career around writing, producing and performing music that refuses to stay comfortably inside one particular box.
His new album, This Dirty Machine, brings those threads together in a raw, cinematic rock record built around isolation, connection and our small place in a very large universe. Written and produced by Kidd and mixed by Scotty Komer, the album uses the vastness of space to explore something much closer to home: what it means to be human.
The album’s first single, “Out On The Spiral Arm,” introduced that world with a collision of heavy guitars, melody and restless energy. “The Breaker” takes the story further — a hard-driving centerpiece from an album designed to be heard as a complete journey.

“”Mary” is a song about a person who can’t commit to anyone or anything and needs to keep running to the next “bigger and better” thing to “move up” in the world,” Kurtys says. “Everyone is disposable and something better is always in the wings.”
On the creative process, Kidd says, “I wrote and recorded the song over two hot and sweaty days The song began with the idea to use the thickest fuzziest guitar tone and work from there.”
Aside from creating music, Kurtys is also a veteran of the screen. He’s appeared in series such as Murdoch Mysteries, What We Do in the Shadows, Earth: Final Conflict, La Femme Nikita, and PSI Factor, often portraying roles as intense and layered as his music.
